Labeling of products containing diisocyanates with a concentration above 0.1% Professional training Diisocyanates are respiratory and skin sensitisers. They are used in a wide range of industries and applications, especially for the production of polyurethane materials such as foams, sealants, adhesives or coatings. The most common form of exposure is inhalation of vapours and direct contact with unprotected skin. The European Commission has issued Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/1149 amending Annex XVII of REACH Regulation – (EC) No 1907/2006. The aim of this regulation is to protect health and reduce health risks for industrial and professional users. REACH is EU-wide legislation that promotes chemical safety through the authorisation and regulation of chemicals and mixtures. The amendment made it mandatory for all professional and industrial users of products containing more than 0.1% diisocyanates (hereinafter referred to as “diisocyanate product”) to undergo training. From 24/08/2023 all professional users are required to undergo training in the use of these products. If your employees or you as a self-employed person apply PU foams, sealants, adhesives or coatings containing diisocyanates in a mixture in concentrations above 0.1%, you are required to undergo professional training. This obligation does not apply to domestic use. According to the EU regulation, the product must be labelled directly on the packaging as follows: “As of 24 August 2023, appropriate training is required for industrial or professional use. ”In the catalogue the products are marked as: “This product contains diisocyanates.” You can receive training through a person qualified in risk prevention (your OHS specialist) or online at www.safeuseofdiisocyanates.eu. There are three levels of training, differentiated according to the use of the product with diisocyanates: 1) General professional training This training applies to all industrial and professional use. 2) General professional training This training applies to the following uses: – handling open mixtures at ambient temperature (including foam tunnels), – spraying in a ventilated cabin, – roller application, brush application, – application by immersion and pouring, – mechanical post-processing (e.g. cutting) of not fully treated cooled objects, – cleaning and waste, – any other use with similar dermal and/or inhalation exposure route. 3) Advanced professional training This training applies to the following uses: – handling of incompletely treated objects (e.g. freshly treated, still warm), – foundry applications, – maintenance and repairs that require access to equipment, – open processing of warm or hot products (> 45°C), – open-air spraying, with limited or only natural ventilation (including large industrial halls), and high-energy spraying (e.g. foams, elastomers), – any other use with similar dermal and/or inhalation exposure route.  For more information, please visit safeusediisocyanates.eu or contact your OHS service provider. 01 02 03 04 05 06 08 10 11 12 09 07 17 16 15 14 13
